This Friday through Sunday, March 8-11, 2018, the Socastee High School Performing Arts Department will present Broadway’s classic hit musical Beauty and the Beast at Socastee High School. General admission tickets are $12; preferred seating is $18.
Here’s a synopsis about the show from the Socastee Performing Arts Department website:
”Step into the enchanted world of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Broadway’s modern classic and an international sensation that has played to more than 35 million people worldwide in 13 countries. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for more than thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But, time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
This ‘tale as old as time’ will be filled with spectacular costumes, sets, lights, dancing, mystery, and romance. Our production will include a cast and crew of over 125 students from Socastee High, Forestbrook Middle, Socastee Middle, and the AAST. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast offers a great opportunity to bring your family together for theatre at its best.”
Shows are at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
