The Grand Strand and Myrtle Beach have numerous piers available for you to experience the fun of salt water fishing. The best part is that pier fishing isn’t as costly as you may think.
Owners of our local fishing piers want to make your pier fishing experience enjoyable, fun, and productive. To help you meet those ends, they have included many fishing necessities so you don’t have to worry about bringing them.
Carolina Pier Fishing Tips
Successful fishing requires both the right equipment and knowledge of the conditions that effect the fish.
For information on catch and size limits, view the Department of Natural Resources South Carolina Saltwater Fishing Regulations. Pier shop owners are your first source of information on what is biting and what bait to use. They want you to enjoy your pier fishing experience and will happily give you some tips and tricks. Your fish shop pros have everything you’ll need to make your outing fun and prosperous.
Don’t forget the sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a chair. Piers offer little to no areas where you can escape the sun. Also, bring some bottled water.

When fishing from the pier, cast your line and let your bait drift with the tide, or fish on the bottom. The marine life attached to the pier’s pilings means a supply of readily available food to the fish, so they naturally tend to gather around the pier.
Watch the experienced fishermen. You can learn a lot from the pros just by watching their techniques. Fishermen are friendly people who love the sport. Most will gladly answer a question or two, and some will even offer colorful stories about “the big one that got away”.
The Surfside Beach pier is currently closed for repairs.

Ron Powell says
I think you made a mistake about the price for the fishing pass at Myrtle beach State Park! It’s either $8 or $10 to fish & $5 for a senior resident of SC!
Joe says
Ron, thank you, I’ll make that correction.
