Making old-fashioned syrup was a large part of farm life in Horry County. You can learn to make your own cane syrup at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm on Syrup Day.
Every fall, sugar cane would be harvested from the field and taken to a local cane mill to extract the juice from the stalk. The next step was cooking down the raw juice into sweet cane syrup.
