South Carolina has a rich agricultural heritage, and a visit to a State or County Fair is a great way to experience that heritage. The fairs seem to be back in full force for 2023. You’ll have a lot to choose from.
You can find livestock competitions, local or regional food and drink, live music, rides, and, of course, lots and lots of fried food.
I can remember growing up and going to the fair in my hometown. The smell of corn dogs, eating those fried “fritters” covered in powdered sugar, riding the Tilt-a-Whirl, cruising the fair midway and thinking how easy it is to toss a softball, from 5 feet away, and land in the basket to win a prize! And of course, the favorite, was the “Weird People and Animals” exhibit.
These South Carolina fairs are primarily held in the fall, with the earliest in late August and the latest starting in mid October.
It appears that Horry County will not be having a county fair any time soon.
